Best Wireless Fence for Goldendoodles
Keeping your Goldendoodle safe means confining them to avoid hazards. We need a set area to protect our dogs!
Fences can’t be everywhere – and on top of that, Goldendoodles are so active and good at jumping! A fence for a standard Goldendoodle that is bent on escaping needs to be 6-foot or more. That’s a serious fence!
There are electronic fences that can keep your Goldendoodle safe without the hassle and cost of an expensive fence install.
The invention of wireless fences has changed the game for owners of active dogs like Goldendoodles. Even better, some wireless fences are transportable and can move between locations!
With a wireless fence, you will have a simple transmitter in the ground. This will help to mark the fence boundary.
If your Goldendoodle crosses that boundary, then they will have an irritating noise played in their ear until they return. In some cases, they will also receive a small static warning. It is a simple method, but it works.
So, what is the best wireless fence for Goldendoodles? Well, we have your back there! There are lots of options on the market – but these four have excellent reviews and standout features. Each of these brings something slightly different to the table, and we are confident that you will find one you like.
Honestly, we wouldn’t really recommend buying a wireless fence outside of this list. You never know what you are going to get. Anything relating to pet safety is one of the products you want to research before you buy.
The Four Best Wireless Fences for Goldendoodles
Best Overall: PetSafe Wireless Containment System
Let’s start this list with what we believe is the ‘best pick’ out of all the wireless fence systems for dogs.
The PetSafe Wireless Containment System has been designed to cover up to 1/2-acre, which should be sufficient for most people. If you want a longer-range system, then you can skip ahead. However, you can purchase multiple versions of the base unit and cover a greater area.
This system markets itself on the fact that it can take around 2-hours to set-up. This may seem like a lot of time if you are traveling with your dog and want to set up a quick fence system. However, we promise you it isn’t. This is one of the quickest wireless fence options on the market. Once you are familiar with how it works, it can take as little as an hour to get up and running.
To get started, you just need to put the base unit in place. This is completely waterproof, so long as you have a waterproof outlet it can plug into. It is safe to leave the wireless containment system out in all conditions. If you are setting this up for use in your backyard, then it is pretty much a ‘set up and forget about it’ sort of system.
There will be a small adjuster knob on the base unit that will allow you to control the size of the area that you want the wireless fence to cover. This could be as little as 5-feet in each direction from the base unit or up to 90-feet in each direction. We feel that the PetSafe Wireless Containment System area can cover enough for most backyards and most routine situations.
There are some marker flags included with the set. These are to mark the boundary. If you are training your Goldendoodle, then it is important that you use these flags. After all, you cannot correct your dog if they do not know where the boundary is. It is the inclusion of these flags that make this one of our better picks. You will be surprised at how many systems out there require you to develop your own ideas for marking that boundary.
Once the system is all set-up, it is a case of putting the collar on your dog, and you are ‘ready to go.’ This system allows you to customize the sound or level of static that the dog collar makes. There are one tone and four different static settings. This means that it shouldn’t be too tricky to find a sound that your dog will work with. It may take a bit of tinkering to get it right, though.
Once the dog leaves the boundary, the sound that you have selected will continue to play into their ear until they return within the boundary. Unlike other wireless fence solutions, this option does not ‘correct’ your dog when they enter back into the boundary. Some people prefer systems like this.
All in all, if you are looking for the best wireless fence for a Goldendoodle, and the budget doesn’t matter all that much to you, then this is the route to go down.
Basic Option: JUSTPET Wireless Dog Fence; Dog Training 2-in-1 System
If you are looking for a more basic, cheaper option, this option from JUSTPET may be just the ticket.
JUSTPET Wireless Dog Fence with Additional TransmitterDespite the low price, this JUSTPET offering has some pretty cool features. For example, a small display will allow you to see precisely the distance you have set the system to. This makes things a little bit easier to understand. It does add a little bit of extra bulk to the system, but it is not too much. You will probably be keeping the base unit hidden away most of the time anyway.
The system can cope with a radius of between 10-feet and 1,000-feet. This means that it can cover a pretty decent area, but it tends to work best at those smaller distances. After all, the signals put out by the base unit can be impacted by items that surround it. You will never be able to find a wireless fence that can reach its full quoted range for that purpose. Well, unless you are placing it in a massive field with nothing in sight, but since there would be no power supply, it wouldn’t work anyway!
This system can warn your dog in several different ways. This can include sound, static shock, and vibration. You have the option to select the warning method that you like. Although, unlike the previous wireless dog fence, you will not have any control over the level of the shock that the system delivers.
All in all, while this unit does have a few shortcomings (it doesn’t seem as powerful as some of the others we mentioned here), it is still a top option. It is excellent for those that do not have a massive budget to spend but understand how important it is to have a quality wireless fence for their Goldendoodle.
Long Range Option: JUSTPET Wireless Dog Fence, up to 900-feet
While the other wireless dog fences can have more extensive ranges, their maximum range isn’t that consistent. The signal can drop off on occasion, which can cause unneeded corrections for your Goldendoodle.
This isn’t going to be a problem with this JUSTPET offering. It can cover a range of up to 900-feet. You have the same level of adjustment as the previous offering from JUSTPET. This means that you can make small adjustments for every 10-feet. The exact radius is labeled on the base unit to know the exact distance you are covering. Although you may have to test it. Some people out there will vastly overestimate ranges. However, once you have found something that works for you, then it is all good. You just need to switch it on in the future.
Other than this, the features are going to be much the same as the previous JUSTPET offering. However, you will not have control over the level of correction that your dog receives. It is always going to play a tone and deliver a small shock. There is no way that you can control these independently from one another. We know that some people are not fans of this, particularly when they are training.
The brilliant thing about this unit is that it is compatible with multiple dogs. You can fit each dog with a JUSTPET wireless fence collar, and they will be corrected independently. You do not have to worry about all of the dogs receiving correction when one dog leaves the boundary. This is a problem with many of the cheaper wireless options on the market. Thankfully, you won’t find any of them listed here.
All in all, if you want a unit with a consistently longer range, then this is the best option for you. It may be lacking a few features compared to other units, but it is still a fantastic wireless fence.
For Stubborn Goldendoodles: PetSafe Stay ; Play Wireless Fence for Stubborn Dogs
If your dog consistently crosses the boundary and you find that the level of correction on your normal wireless fence correction doesn’t seem to be working, then this one from PetSafe has been explicitly designed for the more stubborn of Goldendoodles.
There are two correction options on here. You have the tone-only option, i.e., it will play that irritating sound to your dog. You also have five different levels of static. This is more control over the level of static than any of these other wireless fences give. The greater control over static levels means that you are more likely to find an option that can ‘correct’ your dog.
Besides this extra level of static, this option is pretty much the same as the first one we talked about. This means that you can enjoy the following features:
- Covers up to 3/4-acre. This means that you can change between 5-feet to 105-feet in all directions. This is a high level of customization.
- Takes 1-2 hours to set-up properly. Will require an outlet to power the system.
- No correction when the dog comes back into the boundary.
- Works with Goldendoodles of all sizes
This is the option to go for if you have a Goldendoodle that has been particularly tough to train in the past. It is still a fully-featured wireless dog fence, but just with that extra level of correction. Honestly, unless you need the range (or your budget is limited), we would probably go for either of the PetSafe wireless fences that we have talked about on this page.
