Poodle mixes, or “Doodles,” are very trendy. Known as “designer dogs,” these mixes are a cross between two purebred parents, resulting in a dog with both breeds’ characteristics.

One of the qualities many people love about Poodles is that they are considered to be ‘hypoallergenic’. This means it’s thought that they’re less likely to provoke allergies in pet parents.

You have likely come across a Poodle mix–Labradoodles are one of the most popular, as it is the hypoallergenic version of the most popular family dog, the Labrador Retriever. What you may not know is how many different varieties of doodles there are to choose from!

Many favorite dog breeds have been bred with Poodles, resulting in many amazing choices of pets for those who want a non-shedding dog.

These are some of the most popular hypoallergenic Poodle mixes. However, beware that if a Poodle mix more closely resembles its non-Poodle parent, it could be non-hypoallergenic.

If you need a dog with a hypoallergenic coat, your best bet is to find a dog from the F1b generation, meaning a second generation that has been bred with a Poodle, resulting in offspring that are 75% Poodle.

“It’s good to be aware that although poodle mixes are often considered ‘hypoallergenic’, nothing is 100%, and poodles can still provoke reactions in some cases.”

The exceptions are dogs like the Shih-Poo, which has two hypoallergenic parents (in this case, the Poodle and the Shih Tzu).

Goldendoodle

The Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. This easygoing, friendly, and sweet dog makes an excellent family dog. Beware, though, that not all Goldendoodles are hypoallergenic.

If you need a dog that doesn’t shed, look for an F1b Goldendoodle.

Goldendoodles have beautiful coats that often resemble their Golden Retriever parent’s cream or golden color, but Goldendoodles come in a variety of other colors as well! Goldendoodles also come in black, brown, tan, red, apricot, gray, silver, or blue.

Goldendoodles can also have one of several more rare multi-colored markings, including black and white, parti, and merle.

Goldendoodles come in a range of sizes, from the Standard Goldendoodle, which can weigh up to 90 pounds, to the Toy or Teacup Goldendoodle, which weighs less than 13 pounds.

Bernedoodle

One of the largest hypoallergenic Poodle mixes is the Bernedoodle, a cross between the Poodle and the beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog. The Standard Bernedoodle can weigh up to 90 pounds. However, Bernedoodles are also available in other sizes, the Tiny or Toy Bernedoodle weighing less than 24 pounds.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for their striking tri-colored coats, and this is the most common coloring for Bernedoodles as well. Bernedoodles also come in completely black, black and brown, or black and white coats. Some Bernedoodles come in different coat patterns, such as brindle or merle.

The Bernedoodle looks like a big real-life teddy bear, and this affectionate breed is as snuggly as a teddy bear.

Labradoodle

The most popular hypoallergenic Poodle mix is the Labradoodle, a cross between the popular Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. A fun, energetic dog, the Labradoodle is a great family dog.

The Labradoodle comes in a wide range of colors–black, chocolate, white, golden, apricot, silver, and even multi-colored. Their coats come in a range of textures, as well. Some Labradoodles have very curly coats that closely resemble their Poodle parent, while others have a straighter coat similar to a Labrador Retriever’s coat.

Due to the smaller size of the Poodle parent, Labradoodles are smaller than purebred Labrador Retrievers. A Standard Labradoodle generally weighs between 50 and 65 pounds. Labrador Retrievers are bred with different sizes of Poodles, resulting in a variety of sizes of Labradoodles.

Mini Labradoodles can be as small as 10-15 pounds!

Shih-Poo

If having a hypoallergenic dog is extremely important, consider the Shih-Poo. The Shih-Poo is a mix of two hypoallergenic dogs–the Poodle and the Shih Tzu, meaning that regardless of the individual dog’s genetics, it will have a hypoallergenic coat.

The Shih-Poo is one of the smaller hypoallergenic Poodle Mixes. The Shih Tzu is bred with either a Miniature or Toy Poodle, resulting in a dog that weighs between 7 and 20 pounds.

Shih-Poos can come in a variety of solid colors or be parti-colored. Their coats come in a range of textures and might be curlier like a Poodle’s or more closely resemble the straight coats of the Shih Tzu.

Yorkipoo

Another adorable Poodle mix is the Yorkipoo, a mix of a Yorkshire Terrier and either a Miniature or Toy Poodle. This tiny dog usually weighs between 7 and 11 pounds.

The Yorkipoo is available in a wide range of colors, the most common of which are black, white, cream, red, apricot, and sable.

A Yorkipoo is an excellent option if you cannot dedicate the time to exercise that some larger hypoallergenic Poodle mixes require. Because of its small size, chasing a ball up and down the hall can be sufficient exercise for a Yorkipoo.

Cockapoo

Another adorable Poodle mix is the Cockapoo, a mix between a Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. This designer breed inherits its large ears from its Cocker Spaniel parent, giving it an irresistibly cute teddy bear look.

The Cockapoo is available in three sizes: standard, miniature, and teacup or toy. The Standard Cockapoo weighs between 18 and 25 pounds, the Miniature Cockapoo weighs between 13 and 18 pounds, and the Teacup or Toy Cockapoo weighs between 8 and 10 pounds.

Cockapoos come in many colors and patterns, including solid-colored, parti-colored, merle, and phantom. Cockapoo colors include black, white, chocolate, red, and apricot.

Cavapoo

A small dog with a friendly disposition, the Cavapoo is one of the best hypoallergenic Poodle mixes for families. Cavapoos are a mix between a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They have big, bright eyes inherited from their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small dog, so even Cavapoos with a Standard Poodle parent will be small to medium-sized. Cavapoos range in weight from about 9 to 25 pounds.

Cavapoos can be black, white, red, or a combination of any of these colors. Their ears are covered in thick, flowing hair inherited from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Schnoodle

The Schnoodle is a gentle and calm Poodle mix that is the offspring of a Poodle and a Schnauzer.

Because Poodles come in standard, miniature, and toy sizes and Schnauzers come in giant, standard, and miniature sizes, the Schnoodle comes in a wide range of sizes. Depending on the size of its parents, a Schnoodle can weigh as little as 5 pounds for a Toy Schnoodle or as much as 80 pounds for a Giant Schnoodle.

All sizes of Schnauzers are incredibly intelligent and loyal dogs.

The Schnoodle comes in many colors, including black, brown, white, red, gold, gray, and fawn.

Pomapoo

One of the tiniest and most adorable hypoallergenic Poodle mixes is the mix between a Toy Poodle and a Pomeranian–the Pomapoo.

These petite dogs weigh only 5 to 15 pounds. They are extremely friendly and snuggly–a real-life teddy bear. They are outgoing and playful and tend to get along with everyone, including children and other animals.

Pomapoos may have coats that are solid colored, bicolor, tricolor, brindle, or sable. Colors include black, white, gray, cream, brown, red, and gold.

Maltipoo

The Maltipoo is a mix between a Poodle and a Maltese. This small Poodle mix weighs between 10 and 20 pounds. Because of its small size and low energy level, the Maltipoo is an excellent choice for those who live in smaller homes.

The most common Maltipoo colors are white and cream. They are also available in black, tan, brown, red, apricot, and silver. Some Maltipoos are parti-colored.

Maltipoos are very friendly and social. If you are looking for a small, fluffy dog who loves to be snuggled, a Maltipoo may be the right choice for you!

Shepadoodle

A lesser-known large-breed Poodle mix is the Shepadoodle, also known as the German Doodle, Shepapoo, Shepherdpoo, or Sherdoodle. This dog is a mix between a Poodle and a German Shepherd.

Like most Poodle mixes, not every dog is guaranteed to be hypoallergenic. However, if you need a hypoallergenic dog, you can look for an F1b generation Shepadoodle.
